Ten things I am loving right now… November 20, 2009

Ten things I am loving right now…
1. Not being sick anymore. I dislike being sick. It takes up time that I do not have.
2. Sleeping. I love getting in bed each night and slipping on my sleep mask. Yes I wear a mask. It is my favorite way to relax.
3. Dark nail polish. Especially on my toes. In the winter only K and I know what color my toe nails are. Its our little secret.
4. Love notes. Sometimes I just leave a note in K’s pocket. Maybe in his lunch bag. Or even on his car windshield. Just little ways to let him know I am thinking about him.
5. The sound of rain on my window. Nothing soothes me better.
6. A sale. Nothing is better than getting something you really want for a marked down price. Who doesn’t like a good sale?
7. Cupcakes. They are better than cookies, tarts, pies and donuts. They are your own mini cake and you don’t have to share. Perfect portion size.
8. Girly Indulgences. Bubble baths. Fuzzy slippers. Candles. Anything ladylike.
9. Colorful textiles. I am looking for the perfect fabric for our dining room chairs. I have yet to find it, but I see so many that I would love to use.
10. Soft and worn in clothing. The most comfortable linens/clothing are often ones that have been washed countless times.

# 119. Oldboy (2003) November 20, 2009

IMDB TOP 250 Movies
(As part of my 101 in 1001 project, I am going to watch the entire list. I will not re-watch films I have already seen. My goal with this task is not to watch the whole list from scratch, but to complete it.)
# 119. Oldboy (2003)
With no clue how he came to be imprisoned, drugged and tortured for 15 years — and no one to hold accountable for his suffering — a desperate businessman seeks revenge on his captors, relying on assistance from a friendly waitress. A mesmerizing psychological drama with a resolution that will leave you speechless.
Speechless I was. There are very few movies that are this disturbing, intense and confusing. Yet, you can’t take your eyes of the screen as the plot unfolds bit by bit, leading up to the horrifying climax. This is one movie that is not predictable.

During the week K and I were out doing errands. We were on the way back to our car when we noticed something odd in the concrete. A heart. Of course I had to take a picture of it because it was just so unusual.

Love really is everywhere. You just have to look around to see it.

Things to eat before I die – # 14. Nutella
Yes you read that right. I had never, ever, ever had Nutella before. So the other day I broke down and bought it. You wouldn’t believe how many food bloggers e-mail me asking me why I haven’t tried it and why I am not running to the market to buy it.
I really wanted to know what it was all about. Could this hazelnut-based sweet spread really be worth all of this hype?
Well I certainly think it is now! This stuff is delicious! I even made S’mores with it!
Nutella S’mores
1 graham cracker, broken in half
1 well toasted marshmallow (lightly browned on the outside and hot on the inside – used small because that is all I had)
about two teaspoons of Nutella
Spread the Nutella on one half of the graham cracker. Top with marshmallow, followed by the other half of the cracker. Smoosh down and enjoy.

A movie preview of “Did You Hear About the Morgans?” November 16, 2009

Last Tuesday my sister and I were invited to see a movie preview of “Did You Hear About the Morgans?”. Did You Hear About the Morgans is a romantic-comedy starring Hugh Grant and Sarah Jessica Parker. The actors play Paul and Meryl Morgan, a Manhattan couple whose marriage is in danger. But it turns out all they may need is a change of scenery: when the Morgans witness a contract killer commit a murder and are sent by the government to small-town Wyoming to hide from the killer. Their marriage shows signs of recovery in the small-town.
My sister and I did get quite a laugh out of this movie. The couple is from New York and both actors played their parts perfectly. I found it surprisingly entertaining – definitely beyond my expectations. It’s was not as unique a story, nor is it unpredictable, but something enjoyable to watch. Do try to catch it when it comes out in the theater near you this Christmas or when it comes out on DVD.
Up next….Going to see a preview on Tuesday of Jennifer Lopez and Alex O’Loughlin in “The Back-Up Plan”. Stay tuned!

Book Page Wreath November 15, 2009

I am always surfing the internet for new things to do, to buy, to see, to read. I can’t believe how many blogs there are out there that I haven’t read or come across. So while flipping through a couple of designer blogs I came across Living with Lindsay. Her adventures in home decorating have made me want to do things in my own home. Especially her Book Page Wreath.
Oh me oh my I want to make one.
Like she says “Librarians and book lovers, please avert your eyes”! This wreath is actually made from the pages of a book. Usually I wouldn’t think about doing such a thing because I am so in love with books, but it is just too good to pass up. As soon as I get the chance I am going to sit down and make one. I will definitely let you know how it comes out!

Movies of the week: The Brothers Bloom & Land of the Lost November 15, 2009

Two more movies that we watched this week:
My choice of movie – The Brothers Bloom
The Brothers Bloom made a name for themselves as the world’s best con men. Now, the younger brother is ready to retire on the millions the pair has swindled. But when his older brother lures him into one last job, he reluctantly agrees. What he hasn’t counted on, though, is falling for their mark, an adventure-seeking heiress.
Thoroughly enjoyable. It is very clever and features solid acting, especially by Rachel Weisz as a wealthy but terribly lonely young woman who becomes the target of a swindle devised by the Bloom brothers, played by Adrien Brody and Mark Ruffalo. This movie was fresh, fun, and stimulating!
K’s choice – Land of the Lost
After accidentally uncovering a portal to an alternate universe peopled with dinosaurs, and strange creatures, park ranger Rick Marshall and his two sidekicks are forced to navigate a dangerous new world.
If you are expecting a great movie then don’t watch this. If you are expecting an average movie don’t watch this. How about…don’t watch this?

POM Wonderful November 14, 2009

About a month ago a rep from POM Wonderful contacted me and asked if I would like to try their product. Never having had pomegranate juice before I decided to give it a try. If you have never tried this juice you really should. Besides being “wonderfully” delicious it is also good for you. First off it is full of high levels of powerful antioxidants. Antioxidant help guard your body against free radicals that are linked to disease. POM Wonderful also contain no added sugars, preservatives or colors, is a good source of potassium, gluten-free, and certified kosher.
All this in a drink you ask? Yes. Amazing.
So I receive my package in the mail and fell in love with the drink. We buy it at the supermarket now because we enjoy it so much.
The flavor of pomegranate juice has a unique sweet, rich with a mildly tart taste. If pomegranate juice just isn’t your thing POM Wonderful also makes juice blends with tea and coffee beverages (I will tell you all about the coffee beverages in an upcoming post).
Interested in trying some of this for yourself? Interested in learning more about this wonderful juice? Visit POM Wonderful’s website at: http://www.pomwonderful.com

A Lovely Blog Award November 13, 2009
Posted by delightfullysweet in Award, Giving, Lists, Memories, NaBloPoMo, Things that make me happy, Websites to check out.6 comments
I have been so sick the last couple of days that I am way behind on everything. From house work or blog work. Now that I am feeling just a bit better (not 100%) I need to get my booty in gear!
First thing is that I am honored that Brandi at Not Your Average Ordinary has awarded me with this award. I have been a fan of her blog since I started my own little blog here. She is like a long lost friend that I have never met that lives on the other side of the US. She is awesome.

So here is my to do list:
1. Thank the person who nominated me. Done.
2. Place the logo on my blog. Done.
3. State seven things about me that most people don’t know. Below.
4. Nominate seven (Ok I gave you five) awesome bloggers. Below.
5. Let those bloggers know. Done.
As per # 3:
1. I am allergic to kiwi. Allergic as in I need to go to the hospital, I can’t breath kind of way. Not fun.
2. I worked for an art curator in NYC for 7 years. I loved every minute of it until September 11th. Afterwards, I was scared to go into the city. I ended up leaving my job to work in a completely different field in NJ. I still get mini panic attacks when I see footage regarding September 11th or when I spend long days in the city. It is a shame really because I love NYC.
3. I will not eat a cookie unless it is homemade. The ones in the store just taste fake to me.
4. I enjoy a good horror movie, but I am completely scared of zombies.
5. I can sheet rock, tile and paint with the best of them. My father taught my sister and I that you don’t need a man to help you with anything. No matter what you want to do (re-tile the bathroom?) you can do it yourself!
6. I faint at the sight of needles.
7. I don’t eat tomatoes unless they are in a sauce. Otherwise, I think they are slimy and gross!
Now, I’d like to pass this on to some incredible blogs — some of which I just recently started reading (and some I have been fans for a long time):
Thirty-Something
Bookish Penguin
Heart of Light
Cooking for Seven
Somewhere in Between
