Delightfully Living: Day 158 – Day 165

365 photo project – the simple act of taking a picture every day for a year. The idea behind starting the project is for me to try to get myself to slow down and take a different look at the world. The series is called Delightfully Living. This is Day 158 – 165.

What you will see: moments of time, food, details of the world around me and things that I enjoy.

Day 158: You never know where you will find love. Even in the rain.

Day 159: Homemade Raspberry Sauce. Recipe posted here.

Day 160: I can’t tell you how Batman came to be in our possession, but I will tell you he has seen things. Lots of things.

Day 161: Damn! The Hulk has been working out.

Day 162: After a long day at work, Starbucks was the only thing keeping me up.

Day 163: The calm before the storm. Beautiful blue skies and great weather. Half an hour later it was dark and rainy. That seems to be the new trend in weather around here.

Day 164: I love this picture and I was looking for it in every IKEA I came upon. Finally I found it!! I love it because I love rabbits & it reminds me of Matt Smith’s Doctor Who.

Day 165: Layla is a lazy kitty sometimes. She wanted to play with her toys, but didn’t want to get out of bed.

Day 152: Adventures in Pinterest: Personalized Mugs.

Day 153: A lazy Sunday full of too much television and naughty foods. We needed a bit of a rest with the work loads we have been doing lately.

Day 154: Tasty treats from Spain. Every time my best friend goes away he brings me something!

Day 155: Holy Open Face Hard Taco! My sister and her boyfriend came over for dinner. We had way to much food and margaritas that night, but sometime that’s what you need midweek.

Day 156: We bought the expansion packs to Cards Against Humanity. Can’t wait to invite people over to play!

Day 157: Lately I feel like every other day it is raining here (New Jersey). I am hoping for more sunny days ahead.

Day 142: After three days of the worst pain ever I found myself in the hospital. Ten hours, a spinal tap and a couple of CAT scans later I was sent home. So glad it wasn’t serious.

Day 143: After the hospital visit I took a couple of days off to recuperate. Layla helped me relax.

Day 144: The pirate ghost of Pac-man.

Day 145: Chocolate peanut butter ice cream cones with Mr. Sweet. Delish!

Day 148: Flowers before the rain.

Day 149: I couldn’t agree more.

Adventures in Pinterest: Personalized Mugs

My sister and her boyfriend come over every week. I make dinner and dessert. We play board games, watch movies and do crafts (gingerbread houses for Christmas, decorating ninja cookies, etc.). Last week we decided to try making our own personalized mugs.

Pinterest is infested with pins of white mugs covered in permanent/sharpie marker designs. If you are new to the Sharpie mug phenomenon it is simple: take Sharpies, draw on a mug, and bake them in the oven for a hand crafted permanently designed mug. It sounds so easy! But if you click through the multiple sites that have tried this project you will see each using a different method with some reporting terrible results (i.e. drawings wiping off, not dishwasher proof or fading). Part of what makes the Sharpie Mugs so popular is that it is a craft that you can do immediately because you already have the supplies at home. BUT instead of going the sharpie marker way, I decided to spend a little extra money on ceramic pens to be on the safe side.  We used Decor Art Glass Paint Markers from Micheal’s (($3.99 a pen).

With ceramic pens in hand we each decorated a mug. Hearts, dots, flowers, and other interesting drawings came about. Once we finished with decorating, I set them on a baking sheet and allow them to dry for an hour. I then placed them in a cold oven (this is important! you want them to heat up with the oven), turned the oven to 375 and set a timer for 50 minutes. After 50 minutes was up, I turned the oven off, cracked the oven open a bit and left the cups to cool with the oven. Once they’re cool they’re ready to use!

Note: I have hand washed the mugs and the designs have not wiped off. We have also put them in the dishwasher and they have come out perfectly!! Success!

May Roundup

I have decided that at the end of each month I am going to do a roundup as a reminder to myself of the great things that happen. It is a simple but effective memory keeping tool. It’s a great way to feel a sense of accomplishment, and get us ready to greet a new month of possibilities.

Day 135: A closeup of Layla.

Day 136: My favorite place to relax at work and daydream.

Day 137: Our mini adventure to Rhode Island. I love three day weekends.

Day 138: We visited a few of the Newport Mansions while visiting Rhode Island. Gorgeous! We are already scheduling a return trip to see the mansions we missed.

Day 139: While in Rhode Island we also visited some of the local wineries. A few bottles of our favorites found their way home with us.

Day 140: After a great mini trip I came home not feeling 100%.  Tea and crackers helps soothe me. Little did I know what was ahead of me at this time.

Day 141: Usually a walk helps to clear my mind and makes me feel better. Found these gorgeous flowers on my walk.

Day 130: I was having a pretty rough week. All I had the energy to do this day was go home, put on some pj’s and catch up on “Scandal”.
