Etsy Love: Christmas Red

It seems that this holiday season is flying by. I haven’t done one stitch of Christmas shopping and I am usually done by now. So to start off the season this Sunday’s Etsy Love is Christmas Red. I am especially in love the Sweetheart Apron. It is a perfectly pretty apron for when we have guests over. I might not want to even take it off after the cooking is done!

Cat versus Human

Cat versus Human one of my favorite new websites this week.  I can’t tell you how many of the comics on the site actually happen in our house.  If you have a cat you must check this site out!

This so happens to my husband.  He always says, “What? What did I do?”

Fill in the blank Friday!

You know the drill! Fill in the blank Friday brought to you by the little things we do….

1. My favorite new blog of the moment is Mint love social club.

2. Something I am thankful for is the support of my friends and family. I have really needed them in the last couple of months and they have been there for me 100%.

3. Something that made me laugh this week was the random pirate game my husband’s brother sent us months ago. We finally broke it out when our friend John was over. Hilarious!

4. An item that is currently on my wish list is a pair of cozy Hearthside slippers from LL Bean in bright berry. Seen here.

5. I am excited about the calendar full of plans we have for the next two months. Busy but fun.

6. If I were a color I would be purple. It is associated with wisdom, dignity, independence, creativity, and mystery.

7. My favorite way to spend a chilly fall day is by taking a long walk with my husband, coming back to a warm apartment with hot chocolate and marshmallows and my favorite fluffy blanket.

Etsy Love: Foxy.

I can’t believe how long it has been since I have done an Etsy Love. There is nothing I love more then scanning through all that Etsy has to offer.  So many adorable things that I wish I could just buy up.  Today’s Etsy has to do with foxes!  They are cute, furry and perfect for children’s rooms.

1. Le Red Fox Petite Necklace
2. Fox Felt Applique Plush Doll Pillow
3. Little fox card
4. Fox Wood Bookend
5. Retro Star Fox Christmas Wreath

Monday Five Countdown

Decided to participate in Bookishpenguin’s Monday Five Countdown. What a great idea!! Try it for yourself!

Five Things I’m Grateful For

1. My vacation – At this moment I am most likely sipping on a cool drink in the sun at a resort. K and I are finally taking our honeymoon! Woot!

2. My family – the most amazing family a girl could ask for. Just last week we traveled down to Florida to visit my grandfather. I am happy that I was able to see him.

3. My husband. I am so overly happy to be married to him. Husband. Husband. Husband. I just can’t stop saying it!

4. My crockpot. It has been a lifesaver because our schedules are so different. I hate thinking K doesn’t have something to eat when he gets home.

5. I am so thankful for what we have. Our apartment, our jobs, our friends, everything!

Four Things I Can’t Stop Thinking About

1. How we are going to miss Thanksgiving this year. When we first booked our trip it wasn’t a big deal, but now that we are getting closer to the holiday I am bummed that we will not be in the states.

2. This years Christmas cookie list. I don’t know what I want to make this year. I don’t have the tins yet. I usually have this all settled before Thanksgiving. This year I am not even close.

3. My grandfather. I did not want to leave him when we came back from our Florida trip. I really wish that he lived closer to us.

4. That I need to get back into inviting people over. Due to our wedding we were always all over the place and we didn’t have time for dinner parties or get togethers. Now that we are done I would like to start having people over again. I love entertaining and really miss it.

Three Things I Want To Accomplish This Week

1. Snorkeling. I promised myself I would try it out on our trip.

2. Relaxation. Because I have been none stop for months now!

3. Unpacking right when we get home. I have a habit of leaving everything in the my suitcase for a week before I realized I need to use some of it.

Two Things I Am Working To Be Positive About

1. Bills. Who doesn’t have this problem?

2. Holiday shopping. I am usually done and wrapped by Thanksgiving. I have only gotten one present so far. I am soooo behind!

One Random Thing

1. I tried to go shopping for clothing the other day. For some reason I didn’t find a thing. I didn’t like anything that they were offering, nothing looked good and I was completely depressed at the end of my shopping experience. Where are all of the cute, adorable, well-fitting clothes that I see in the magazines?

What’s going on with your five for today?

Fill in the Blank Friday!

Another week has gone by. I always look forward to Friday’s. Not only does it mean that the weekend is here, but also that we get to do the Fill in the Blank Friday from The Little Things We Do

1. I am currently navigating my way through my early thirties trying to show myself, my kitchen, and the world what I am made of. I am a receptionist by day and baker, entertainer and all around foodie by night. I smile a lot. I laugh too loud. I am easily amused. I find fun in little things – always enjoy life to the fullest. I am not one to take things too seriously.

2. I wish that I had more money. There are so many things that I would love to do, so many people I would love to help.

3. I like where I live. So many people make fun of New Jersey. Hey! I am one of the people who actually doesn’t mind living here.

4. I can make people happy. That is one thing I have always been able to do. I love that I can….it makes me happy too!

5. I hope that all of your dreams come true!

6. I think way too much. About too many things. Sometimes it gets in the away.

7. I was hungry, but my lunch just got here. Yay! Sushi!

Caramel Apple Cake

After our apple picking adventure on Sunday, we had 40 to 50 apples that needed to be consumed. We have been eating at least three a day each, but the bowl of apples never seems to go down. So I found myself browsing Tastespotting and found a recipe for a Caramel Apple Cake. Three words that are each good alone, but when put together make something amazing. DO try it the next time you have extra apples on hand. It was divine!

Caramel Apple Cake From: A Whisk & A Prayer

2 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 egg
1 cup milk (I used 1%)
1/4 cup butter (melted)
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup apple (chopped and peeled)
1 large hand full of caramel bits or as many as you want! (new by Kraft)

1 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup quick-cooking oats
6 tablespoons butter (melted)
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon and salt. In another bowl, whisk the egg, milk, butter and vanilla. Stir into dry ingredients just until moistened. Fold in apple and caramel. Spray spring form pan with nonstick spray. Pour batter into pan.

In a separate bowl, combine topping ingredients. Sprinkle topping over batter, making sure the topping covers the batter. Bake for 40-50 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.

Remove from oven, allow to cool, remove spring form rim and plate.

I suggest serving the cake warm (you can always reheat it) with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream.

{Not the best picture – I was in the middle of eating it when I realized I had not taken one picture!}

I love surfing the net. So when I woke up at seven am yesterday morning with nowhere to go and things to do (which I did not want to do yet) I decided to surf the net.
Here are six websites that I have come across yesterday that I would love to share with you. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

1. Lovely Scribbles. All things design. Her place cards are amazing. I did DIY place cards for our wedding and they are no where near as pretty as hers. Amazing.

2. Eat*Drink*Pretty. A lifestyle blog focused on cooking, baking and entertaining/party planning. A girl after my own heart.

3. The Sweetest Occasion. What great party planning. Adorable tables!

4. Pictures and Pancakes.  I found this one through GOOP.  What a lovely site.

5. Sweet Paul. I might have shown you this website before. It is worth mentioning again! That is how much I love it.

6. Z Tasty Life. What stands out to me most is her photography. Simple and pure. I wish that I could be half as good as she is.
